My main activities involve assisting clients with the management of Legacy / distressed Portfolios. My involvement varies hugely depending on the situation but includes advising on the management of discontinued portfolios, project work for companies going through stressful or transformative periods, managing small portfolios of legacy business and assisting with MGA's facing challenges.
Over the last 25 years this has included several periods as an interim Director / CEO and also a number of review exercises to discover what has happened / suggest solutions.
My background was originally in claims management but included reinsurance recoveries and audit / litigation support, but since 1994 I have worked extensively in restructuring roles for both ongoing and run-off companies. This has included the management of Schemes of Arrangement, Part VII Transfers and commutation programmes, including the negotiation of multi-million pound claim settlements.
I am currently managing the run-off of AIG’s Surety book and prior to that my most recent activity has included assisting a major Lloyd's Syndicate with their Resolution & Recovery Plan and working with two major London carriers to assist them with MGA's that faced some challenges.
Market activities - I have a long history of sitting on various market committees and in late 1997 I co-founded the trade body for the run-off sector (then called ARC and now renamed as IRLA) and I was its first Chairman up until 2005.
